Buy Nothing Day: Taming the Overconsumption Beast

The deadly sin of gluttony refers not only to overeating, but also to excess consumption of many types. As much of the world suffers too little to survive, Americans consume to excess. "BND" or Buy Nothing Day refers to the Friday following Thanksgiving, traditionally the highest spending day of the year and now the target for those urging lower consumption. Host Don Fitz and Paul MacFarlane, of The Experiment, discuss effects of overconsumption on the enviroment and BND activities around the world. Footage by Aaron Michels captures 2002 BND activities in St. Louis.
