Iraq: Environmental Catastrophe

Continuous US bombing of Iraq has created an environmental nightmare leading to the deaths of 5000 children per month. In the first few hours of the 1991 bombing, 95% of the electrical, water treatment, and sewage treatment plants were destroyed. Host Don Fitz and Chrissy Kirchhofer of the Peace Economy Project discuss the use of "depleted" uranium by the US, which leaves the birthplace of western civilization a toxic wasteland causing birth defects and ovarian cancer for the next several billion years. Experiences of Iraqi civilians are highlighted in footage from "Iraq: State of the Sanctions 2002."
