The Missouri State Auditor certified that there
are sufficient signatures to mandate an audit of the City of St.
Louis. Members of the Green Party of St. Louis spearheaded the
signature drive in late 2006 after concern that the City was not
fully disclosing where lead poisoning prevention money was being
spent.
The issue has now gone far beyond lead poisoning
dollars. Some citizens are asking, Where are the tax dollars owed
the public schools? Where was HUD grant money spent that should
have been used to repair homes later blighted?
And why has money not been able to fund a Civilian
Oversight Board for the Police Department? A big concern is with
block grants that were made sot he businesses would creat jobs
for low income citizens. Where are those jobs?
