OIL SPILLS: Ecological Disaster and Social Justice

WHEN:   7:00 pm, Wednesday, November 3, 2010

WHERE:
Legacy Books & Cafe, 5249 Delmar (near Union), St. Louis MO 63108

The true devastation of the April 2010 Gulf Oil Spill to aquatic life is just now being realized. Far worse than the Exxon Valdez spill of 1989, British Petroleum’s Gulf of Mexico spill is one of the biggest ecological disasters in this hemisphere

Yet, worse catastrophes loom and have already occurred in other parts of the world, especially by Shell Oil in Nigeria. As the remaining oil is drained from the Earth, that which remains will be increasingly dangerous to extract. Is the answer new green gadgets or redesigning society to use vastly less energy?
