Many of the “pink tide” progressive governments in Latin America are using income from mining, smelting, logging, and agriculture to fund anti-poverty programs. But, is this “extractivism” the only source of revenue? What could be the long-term consequences? What does this mean for countries such as Haiti, that are still controlled by right-wing forces? And, how could trade deals such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership affect future development?
