Ever since the August 9 murder of Michael Brown, progressive people have been demanding the arrest and prosecution of the cop who did it. The delay in the arrest of Darren Wilson reflects the racism that pervades St. Louis and America. Many St. Louis municipalities practice racial profiling in traffic stops, which results in blacks paying more fines and going to jail more. Police Departments often do not reflect the ethnic composition of their communities. What is the role of racist violence in the insidious growth of prejudicial beliefs?
