Previous extinctions were linked to asteroids or volcanoes – but this one is an inside job. Will humans avoid the sixth mass extinction? Not unless we act immediately. It’s not just loss of habitat or food – it’s oxygen. We cannot survive without it, and ocean death will result in oxygen depletion. Estimates of when this will happen are difficult to predict, but it could happen in your children’s lifetime or your grandchildren’s lifetime. Panelists will look at dying oceans, plant life die off and geoengineering.
