In July, 2013, a train loaded with crude from North Dakota oil fields exploded in the center of Lac-Mégantic in Quebec.  Dozens of buildings were leveled. At least 28 people were killed, with the death toll is expected to reach 50 as charred bodies are pulled from the ruins. The fracked oil was en route to New Brunswick.

Missouri has had its own oil spills, most notably on the Gasconade River.  Current Missouri disasters-in-waiting include the Keystone Pipeline and the Enbridge Pipeline (Flanagan South), scheduled to begin construction on August 7, 2013.

As easy-to-reach sources of fossil fuels disappear, those remaining are more expensive, more dangerous and more environmentally destructive.  Come, join us in discussing alternatives.
