Green Time TV: Creating New Environments

        The many environments across the globe will be different tomorrow than they are today.If you are not among those working to improve the environment, you could be helping to make it worse.October Green Time shows look at how environments are begin affected, negatively and positively.

How are genetically modified organisms (GMOs) affecting agriculture, plants, animals and people?During the first October Green Time, Christine Jackson, of Healthy Effective Alternatives to Live, and Anubis Imhotep Supreme Dey, of Supreme Royalty Clothing, discuss how children should be taught about healthy foods.They look at the type of food that children are served when away from home and how food deserts affect the black community.

The Community Arts and Movement Project (CAMP) is on Cherokee St. in south St. Louis city.The second episode features resident artist Sarah Paulsen and Sistah Chris, of Healthy Effective Alternatives to Live, exploring how ongoing CAMP programs use art as a social catalyst.CAMP is a focal point for artists and environmental activists to affect the surrounding neighborhood as well as the broader St. Louis community.

Lead poisoning by Doe Run links southeastern Missouri to La Oroya, Peru.During the final show, Rev. Jed Koball, with the Presbyterian Church (USA), describes a range of environmental issues confronting Peru, how lead mining has affected La Oroya and his work with youth in that city.He looks at children (and adults) in La Oroya standing up to protect the health of their community and explains how “free trade” agreements contribute to environmental degradation and health crises.

October Green Time shows include the movies “GMO-a-Go-Go,” “CAMP– People’s Joy Parade,” and “Cámbialo!”

Green Time airs on KNLC stations in four Missouri areas.It appears at noon on Saturdays in St. Louis on Channel 24-1 and at 8 pm on Mondays in St. Louis on Channel 24-2, Springfield on Channel 39, Joplin on Channel 36 and Marshfield on Channel 17.

·October 19, 21: “Cambialo: Combating Lead Poisoning in Peru.”
