Do conditions in Missouri’s prisons meet the United Nations’ definition of torture? Is it fair to talk about “mass incarceration” in Missouri? The so-called “War on Drugs” and mandatory sentencing have dramatically increased the prison population. Once inside, prisoners are exposed to egregious harm through arbitrary treatment, systematic institutional abuse, deliberate medical negligence and the possibility of years of solitary confinement, often coupled with forced psychotropic medication. How can we stop the brutality against prisoners in the US?
