Trauma is a deep emotional wound. Children, especially black children, are exposed to too much toxic stress and upsetting situations that impact overall health and well being. What physical changes go on in the body when a person has too much stress? How do personal problems and community issues interact with each other? Even when trauma is not due to a PTSD-type event, it still has enormous effects on a person???s emotions, behaviors and judgment while reliving the trauma. After we understand these issues, how can we help others and ourselves cope? How do we "get upstream" with resources, policy changes andeffective early intervention activities through screening and access to care? What type of political and international crises have distressing effects and what do we need to change globally?
